Its always on my mind competition winner

3rd June 2008

Kingston University’s Matt Parker and Leo Thom have been announced as the winners of the Student Landscape Institute Council’s Youtube competition, Landscape and Me - Its always on my mind.

The competition challenged students to produce a short video reflecting their experience of studying landscape architecture and what it’s like to live in a landscape students head.

“We were looking for a creative, original approach - entries could be about passions or personal journeys, the quirks of student life, or a take on landscape architecture itself.” says SLIC Chair Ian Lanchbury of Manchester Metropolitan University. “We had a great response so it was difficult to chose just three.”

Matt and Leo’s piece, Landscape is My Radiohead was described by judges as full of movement, captivating and constantly changing. We loved the imagery of the way landscape themes fit into a student’s head,” said Ian

Second prize was awarded to Kingston first year student Harry Bix for his one minute cartoon, giving a simple and humorous take on explaining just what it is that landscape architecture is about. Harry was commended for his novel use of Autocad.

Third prize winner Matt Foster, who is at Birmingham City University and also in his first year, gave a a lively account of his development and inspirations. “Matt’s video had a good personal story and a positive feeling – we liked the description of the way our enthusiasms grow and we learn.”

Matt and Leo receive a prize of £500, Harry and Matt the runners up prizes of £100 each.
