Working holiday to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
21st May 2008
A group of volunteers, mostly garden designers, is going to Cape Town in August to work at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a World Heritage Site and probably one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world.
The trip, organised on a non-profit making basis, is for two weeks volunteering plus a third optional week.
As well as working at Kirstenbosch itself participants will also be engaged in small groups on several outreach projects in the townships and in the wetlands under the auspices of the South African Biodiversity Institute that runs Kirstenbosch, as part of their greening programmes.
As part of the package there’ll be a number of excursions: wine routes, Cape Point, Robben Island, Franchshoek, guided walks on Table Mountain and the cable car (weather permitting). For those who are interested the city offers many venues for surfing, sailing and scuba diving as well.
The cost of the organised part of the trip is £1500 for single occupancy (£1300 for double occupancy). This includes airfares, bed and breakfast for 14 days, transport, excursions and insurance. Lunch and dinner are not included. The organisers are happy to help in organising the optional third week of the trip.
The trip runs from 13 August to 2 September 2008. Accommodation will be in fully serviced four/five star self catering cottages in the heart of Constantia, close to Kirstenbosch, with pool and tennis court.
There are a few places still available so if you are interested call Patricia on 020 7209 1659 or email patriciawalby@hotmail.com
