If you missed the Climate Change Conference in Bristol, last chance to book for Leeds

9th May 2008

There is still a chance to book places for the second of the Landscape Institute's Climate Change conferences in Leeds on 23 May.

This is what one of the delegates from the Bristol conference said -

'Having been to a number of climate change-related events in the last 18 months, this one will stand out in my mind as offering a genuinely inspiring vision, backed up by credible examples of action that can be taken at grassroots level.'

The speakers -

· Peter Wilder MLI will give a keynote speech on Landscape Architects and leadership in the climate change challenge.

· Rosie Manise from Natural England will give an update on the Climate Change bill.

· Jon Lovell MLI will examine the development of the Climate Change Policy on future policy areas.

· Ian Stanyon MLI and Roger Nowell will present a local case study on Manor Fields District Park in Sheffield; an ambitious project taking 25 hectares of formally derelict land and turning it into a respected site with the cultural identity of being a park.

You can also choose to attend two of the seminars –

· Housing - Professor Robert Tregay FLI from LDA Design. Floodplain development, masterplanning, low energy homes, renewable energy, green roofs, green infrastructure, sustainable drainage and transport solutions. Adding value from landscape: sustainable energy, water, transport, microclimate, biodiversity and effective place shaping.

· Green Infrastructure - Francis Hesketh MLI from TEP. The urban heat island effect, reducing surface run off, improving air quality and sustainable transport.

· Community engagement – Adam White MLI from Groundwork. Raising environmental awareness, particularly among young people, and the potential for a more sustainable society.

· Healthy Living in the landscape- Larissa Lockwood from Sustainable Development Commission. Findings of the recently published knowledge base "Health, place and nature".

The day will end with an opportunity to network or relax at a social event organised with the local Landscape Institute branches.

Costs of the conference are offered on a sliding scale from £25 to £225.
