Landscape Institute appoints Director General

The Landscape Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of Alastair McCapra as its new Director General. Alastair will take up his duties in July 2008.
Alastair has extensive experience in the charity sector. He joins the Institute from the Institute of Conservation (ICON), where he has been Chief Executive for the past three years. He previously spent five years as Head of Policy for the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health.
On completion of his education at Fitzwilliam College Cambridge and Birkbeck College London in languages and history, Alastair worked for a number of academic and professional bodies in a marketing, communications and business development capacity.
Landscape Institute President Nigel Thorne said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Alastair as Director General. The Institute has recently adopted a new charter which will allow it to grow and develop in keeping with the great diversity within our profession. This is an excellent time for a new Director General to lead the growth and development of the organisation.”
Alastair McCapra said: ‘‘I am delighted to be joining the Institute at this exciting stage in its development. Its vision of a thriving society and environment through inspirational places is one which is increasingly recognised as important to our society. Thanks to contributions from members and staff, the Institute has an excellent Development Plan, and I look forward to playing my part in turning it into a successful reality.’’
