Landscape Institute Position Statement on Climate Change – An Update
1st May 2008
Thank you to all those who participated in the recent consultation on the Landscape Institute’s Position Statement on Climate Change. We received almost 200 responses which is very encouraging and indicative of the depth of interest in this important area of work. Our Climate Change conference, which was held at Bristol Zoo on the 25th April, provided an additional opportunity for us to gather views on the statement.
The vast majority of respondents were pleased with both the content and style of the draft document, though there were a number of constructive recommendations which will be invaluable in helping us shape the final version. These recommendations will be discussed by the Institute’s Policy Committee who are meeting on Tuesday 6th May and the document then redrafted as appropriate. The final draft will then be considered by the Institute’s Executive Committee and Council for approval and then formatted and designed, including case studies of landscape response to climate change. We will be sending out the final publication to all members upon completion of this process, as well as stakeholders, clients, professional bodies and all levels of government.
Look out for further consultations in the coming year on the themes Housing and Regeneration, Green Infrastructure, Community Engagement and Healthy Living in the Landscape – we need your views, knowledge and expertise to help shape these Position Statements and all members will be made aware of how to feed in to the process as the work of the Policy Committee and Secretariat progresses.
