New guidance published to increase and improve London’s open and green spaces

The Mayor of London has published two reports to support the delivery of London Plan policies that are designed to protect, improve and create open spaces throughout London.

The first – ‘Supplementary Planning Guidance for the East London Green Grid’ - sets out how the open spaces in the east of the city should be enhanced as the area is transformed by both the 202 Games and major regeneration planned in the coming decade.

The Green Grid provides a guide for developers and planners on how to deliver the network of interlinked, high quality open spaces that will connect the town centres, public transport hubs, the Thames and the surrounding countryside with the newly created communities planned for east London. This new guidance will help those planners and developers plan where and how the Grid should develop for the future.

The second - ‘Improving Access to Nature’ outlines how boroughs should plan policies for more access to nature in their development plan documents as well as encouraging and facilitating projects that significantly improve biodiversity in parks and open spaces.
