Landscape Institute elects Clare Brockhurst as Fellow
19th October 2007
The Landscape Institute is delighted to announce that landscape architect Clare Brockhurst has been elected a Fellow of the Institute.
Clare, 39, gains the honour for her outstanding contribution to the development and improvement of the landscape profession.
Out of a total of 5,500 members, just 79 are Fellows of the Landscape Institute – the professional body and regulator for landscape architecture.
President of the Landscape Institute Nigel Thorne said: “Fellowship of the Landscape Institute is an honour awarded to our professional members who have shown outstanding qualities and leadership with the landscape architecture profession. I am delighted to welcome Clare as a new ‘Fellow’ after many years of exemplary work in so many different quarters.”
Clare said: “I am delighted to have the recognition of my peers for my contribution to the profession. Being recognised by the Landscape Institute in this way is a highlight of my career as a landscape architect, but the award itself is meaningless unless I take an active role in promoting and developing my profession, which is something I intend to do.”
Clare is managing director of Waterman CPM, Environmental Planning and Design Ltd, based in Gloucestershire, and has led projects from small private garden designs to projects of national importance such as the South Downs National Park inquiry. She has been a member of the Landscape Institute for ten years and is actively involved in organising the annual Landscape Institute Awards.
Clare is the youngest ever managing director of a Waterman Group company, and is the first female managing director of a Waterman Group company. In 2005 she became the first woman to sit on Waterman Group’s General Management Board and at the age of 35 was also the youngest managing director in the group.
She made a rapid rise from a graduate landscape architect with Bovis Homes to managing director of Waterman CPM within 14 years. Outside of work, Clare enjoys spending time with her young family.
Simon Ursell, director of Waterman CPM said: “Clare has a natural ability to bring the best out in those around her. She is one of those rare people that inspire others through word and deed.”
