Landscape Institute call for consultation comments on the Housing Green Paper
18th September 2007
Housing Green Paper, ‘Homes for the future: more affordable, more sustainable’.
On the 23rd July 2007 the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) released the Housing Green Paper, ‘Homes for the future: more affordable, more sustainable’. This Green Paper outlines the Government’s plans for delivering three million new homes by 2020 and the ways in which the Government aims to meet this target. The Green Paper is currently under consultation, a process which closes on the 15th October 2007.
The Institute is seeking comments from its members on the contents of the Green Paper so that we can submit a response to Government which best represents the views of the Institute as a whole. This is one way in which we can potentially influence Government policy, as well as raising the profile of the profession.
Back in the August edition of Vista we reported initial comments made by Richard Cass, partner at Cass Associates, in response to the Housing Green Paper’s launch. Richard called upon landscape architects to:
“…take this opportunity and exert (their) influence – in the planning process that identifies the location of new housing, in the masterplanning process, which should have landscape as one of its basic components, and in the design delivery and management of the green spaces themselves”.
This summary highlights the areas of the Green Paper which will perhaps be of greatest interest to members of the Landscape Institute and we are seeking your views which will contribute towards our final response. Therefore this document should be read in conjunction with the official Green Paper, details of which can be found below. We would appreciate any general views you may have on the content of the Green Paper and ask that these are submitted to us by Monday 8th October 2007. These views should be sent to:
