Landscape Institute - Royal Institute of British Architects Annual Discourse
28th August 2007
The Landscape Institute is delighted to announce that the landscape architect Tom Lonsdale will speak on "Meaningful landscapes - an antidote to iconic building" at the annual Landscape Institute - Royal Institute of British Architects Annual Discourse.
The Discourse, chaired by RIBA President, Jack Pringle will take place at the University Of Manchester School Of Architecture at 6:00pm on 29 October 2007.
The media is full of iconic images, objects calling for attention and inviting patronage of the institution they represent. Tom Lonsdale, director of Camlin Lonsdale and Chair of the North West Design Review Panel will argue that architecture has been drawn, willingly in many cases, down this ‘masculine’ route as towns and cities strive to put themselves on the map and every developer believes his to be the ideal site for a 'landmark' building. Lonsdale asks if we will be left with any place of calm and sanity between buildings.
