Questionnaires to gather information about the demand for urban design skills development in the current and future workforce

11th July 2007

The Landscape Institute is working with the Department for Education and Skills to identify current skills gaps in urban design and its appreciation and using this information to develop model cross-disciplinary educational programmes which can provide skills and knowledge development to meet those gaps.

The first piece of work in the project – identifying the current gaps in the workforce for practitioners with urban design skills has been commissioned from Keele University.

Keele has developed two questionnaires to gather information about the demand for urban design skills development in the current and future workforce.

The questionnaires have been drafted after discussion with the Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC) who is currently conducting a survey into the skills shortages that will impede the successful delivery of sustainable communities. By using a template which is compatible with the ASC survey the findings for validation will be mapped.

One of the questionnaires is for completion by any individual who considers they use or need urban design skills in their role – individuals are asked to give their own views and complete the questionnaire on their own behalf.

The second questionnaire has been designed to gather information across the whole organisation and to be filled in by one person on behalf of that organisation.

This is your chance to contribute to an important project.
