Vice-Presidential Election Results Announced

7th June 2006

The election results for the two posts of Landscape Institute Vice President were announced this afternoon (7 June).

Professor Kathryn Moore, President of the Institute, said: "3,057 ballot papers were despatched and 902 were returned to the Electoral Reform Services, which has run the election on our behalf.

"Jo Watkins received 644 votes, Neil Williamson received 492 votes and Martin Leay received 373 votes, five papers were spoilt or invalid. Jo Watkins and Neil Williamson were therefore elected to serve on the new Council from 1 July.

"I would like to thank the Council members who acted as scrutineers for the election, Susan Lowenthal and Colin Goodrum. Thanks are also due to Claire Luxton, Director of Secretariat and Policy who managed the process.

"All three candidates have given outstanding service to the Institute and I am grateful for the spirit with which they have entered into the election. It is also particularly pleasing that the turnout was reasonable. 3,057 Corporate Members, that is Members and Fellows, were eligible to vote, and almost 30% exercised their democratic right to influence the future of the Institute. It is some years since there was an election for any of the Honorary Officer positions so this turnout was very welcome."

The Institute is at an important juncture in its fortunes with governance and the development plan currently under review. A consultation of the whole membership will take place over the summer before final plans are ratified by the new Council in October.
