Appointments to the National Park Authorities and the Broads Authority

17th March 2006

New appointments to the English National Park Authorities and Broads Authority were confirmed today by Rural Affairs Minister, Jim Knight.

The post-holders are the national voice on the Authorities, which have strategic responsibility for conservation, recreation, planning, access and resource issues.

Eight new members have been appointed, for a three-year term of office. In addition, twenty-one existing members have been re-appointed for further terms of up to three years.

Anyone can apply to become a member of a National Park Authority or the Broads Authority. Applications from women, ethnic minorities and those with experience in a variety of fields including community, youth and voluntary work, business and environmental interests are particularly welcome.

Advertisements for the appointments announced today appeared in the regional press and on the Defra and Countryside Agency websites in September 2005.

The next round of appointments is expected to start in early September 2006. Further information about the work of the Authorities can be found at: http://defraweb/wildlife-countryside/issues/landscape/authorities/membership.htm
