The Chilterns Conservation Board inaugurated the Chilterns Landscape Design Award scheme last year to encourage and reward high quality design and management of special landscape features in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is being run again this year and the deadline for entries is September 12th 2008. The Award scheme is open to a wide variety of landscape design projects and can include landscaping of new or existing developments, creation of new features such as tree avenues or parkland and management of landscapes including fields, hedges and woods.

Members of The Landscape Institute routinely work to ensure that trees form an integral part of the urban landscape and public realm. However, the valuable contribution made by large-growing trees in particular is often compromised or precluded by negative perceptions relating to maintenance, nuisance or safety and associated costs.
