Reducing social exclusion is at the heart of the Government's agenda for reducing poverty and to enable equality of opportunity for all. One of the Government's five key goals set out in their 'Towards a Sustainable Transport System' paper is social equity and promoting greater equality of opportunity. The core aim of transport policy is to ensure that all groups have effective access to jobs, services and social networks as poor accessibility can reinforce social exclusion.
This conference, developed with support from Pteg and the DfT examines the challenges to be overcome in tackling social exclusion and focuses on what needs to happen to ensure equality for all. The conference looks at practical action that local authorities and passenger transport executives can take to help reduce social exclusion.
