Environmental Futures 08: Creating the Climate for Change

Building on the success of environmental futures 07 this year's conference will combine perspectives from government, business, the investment community and others to:

  • Share the latest thinking and policies on the environment, with the focus on a low carbon economy and adaptation to built-in climate change.
  • Debate the respective roles of government, business, the investment community, the technology sector and other groups in delivering real change.
  • Uncover the mechanisms and measures that will incentives and accelerate progress and stimulate wider behavior change.


  • The conference will be chaired by journalist, Elinor Goodman and include keynote speeches from the Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Rt Hon John Hutton MP, Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

    Other speakers include Environment Minister Phil Woolas MP; Lord Chris Smith, Chairman of the Environment Agency; Sir Simon Milton, Chariman of the Local Government Association; Sir Michael Pitt, Chair of the Pitt Review which reported on lessons from the 2007 floods; Dr James Hansen, Director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, and Richard Gillies, Director of Plan A, Marks and Spencer.
