A Non-Planners Guide to the Planning System

This three-day course is for anyone who wants a better understanding of the land-use planning system to facilitate consultations and decision-making, and those who wish to be involved in planning issues in their communities.

The course will examine how to -

  • Engage in the process of developing and using strategic and local development plans and supplementary planning statements
  • Use the system to optimise opportunities for environmental protection and enhancement and to defend sensitive sites
  • Help communities to understand how the system works and how they can use it
  • Engage with planning officers with confidence
  • Cut through the jargon

  • Highlights include 'Practical activities to provoke thinking about the way policies are produced and decisions are made' and 'Briefings on the latest developments in planning'.

    Course fees are £625 or £570 for voluntary organisations and individuals working as volunteers. The fee includes two nights shared accommodation at Losehill Hall, plus all meals. The single room supplement is £10/night.
