The Landscape Institute East Anglia branch is pleased to be holding a joint conference with the Landscape Department at Writtle College. Writtle School of Design offers LI accredited programmes in Landscape Architecture and Landscape and Garden Design. Accredited since 2006, the Head of the Design School Jeff Lodgson has been developing interdisciplinary landscape courses integrating the creativity of art and design with a core knowledge of horticulture, earth sciences and landscape.
This conference is the central part of the Branch’s ‘International’ theme for the year.
Speakers include-
Sibylla will talk about some of Gustavson Porter’s exciting projects in the Middle East and the UK and part of her talk will focus on the different cultural considerations that have to be taken into account.
Michael will speak about two decades of the groundbreaking work carried out at the Emscher Park in the Ruhr region,the former industrial heartland of Western Germany, where the concept of a “landscape park” has been used to drive regeneration. Ecology, large scale environmental restoration and accessible public art are elements of the principles behind this avant-garde regional park – a network of green spaces and experiences along the river Ruhr. The third decade and its master plan concept will also be revealed.
Ben is one of the UKs leading champions of Shared Space principles in street design to improve safety, congestion and access. He will bring his unique experience in emerging approaches to streetscape design and the integration of traffic into the built environment, and introduce best practice from overseas and UK.
The day will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm and will include refreshments and a buffet lunch.
