The practice has been shortlisted alongside Bell Phillips & Kimble, Feix & Merlin, Hakes Associates and Loop Architecture to design a £2.5m project that incorporates the Grade II listed Gasholder No. 8.

The complex design brief calls for a scheme that symbolises King’s Cross by harnessing its history and character and celebrating the natural environment.

It also needs to accommodate a variety of uses, serving as an amenity for the local primary school, a neighbourhood resource and a visitor attraction. It also needs to include a playable landscape, incorporating a landmark play feature.

Gustafson Porter has proposed a multi-functional landscape, while some of the other ideas include a helter skelter slide from Feix & Merlin and a giant reflective ball from Hakes Associates.

The judging panel, consisting of the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership (Argent King's Cross Limited Partnership, London & Continental Railways and DHL) and the masterplanners for King’s Cross Central will choose a winner at the end of October.
