The winners have been announced in a competition to design a new library for the Dalarna University campus in Sweden. A team led by ADEPT Architects, based in Denmark, and Sou Fujimoto Architects, based in Japan, created the Dalarna Media Arena: a 3,000m2 library and adjoining plaza that is a multifunctional event and knowledge centre for students, teachers and the local community.
The advisory team consisted of Topotek1, Rambøll A/S and Bosch & Fjord.
Based around a ‘spiral of knowledge’, a ramp wraps around the inside of the building to create a spiral-shaped space – the heart of the building. This creates learning environments where students can take part in the vibrant life of the library as well as retreat into various study niches.
