The Olympic Park Legacy Company has revealed images of the five shortlisted schemes to design the public space between the aquatics centre and the Olympic stadium...
The competition was launched in July this year for a landscape masterplan for the South Park site, which sits within the branches of the River Lea and around the 114m-tall ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture by Anish Kapoor.
The remit was to create a distinctive area that will bring together a vibrant mix of cultural events, beautiful spaces and recreational uses.
The centrepiece will be a major public space that will welcome crowds to the south of the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after the Games. Sitting between the Aquatics Centre, the Stadium, the ArcelorMittal Orbit and the 2012 Gardens, this space will have a visitor centre, water features, imaginative play facilities and host a range of diverse festivals and performances.
The successful scheme will be built on the park in Stratford after the London 2012 Games finish, and a winner is expected to be announced in December.
The proposals are currently on ‘anonymous’ display at the NLA, Store Street, London until early January.

Seems like a narrow list of current international stars. Only one of which is British based and them only partly. Seems sad that these commissions go abroad.
