Entries are now open for this year’s London Tree and Woodland Awards. The competition is challenging people to capture the value of London’s trees and woodlands through poetry, prose, photography or posters...
This ‘Creative Award’ forms part of the RE:LEAF initiative, which is now in its fourth year. Led by Mayor of London Boris Johnson, the initiative aims to protect the capital’s trees and woodlands – and encourage individual Londoners, businesses and organisations to plant more trees in the capital.
The Forestry Commission’s Regional Director for London, Ron Melville, said: “London’s trees and woodlands are loved by those who live and work in our capital city. They make our streets more attractive and offer shelter from the sun, as well as providing a long-term habitat for wildlife, reducing pollution and helping to mitigate against climate change.
“These awards recognise those organisations, individuals and schools that help to improve London through their dedication to trees and woodlands.”

The deadline for receiving nominations is Friday 28 October 2011, and the Awards will be presented at an evening reception on 1 December in the London Living Room at the top of City Hall.
