A new canal link between Liverpool's docks and the Leeds-Liverpool canal (The Pier Head and Canal Link) created by engineering and design company AECOM has won the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA) and Commission for the Built Environment (CABE) Public Space Award.
Sarah Gaventa, director of public space at CABE, said: "The Pier Head and Canal Link create an exciting new waterfront for Liverpool that elegantly complements its surroundings.”
The project, commissioned by Liverpool City Council and British Waterways, has created a new waterfront in the city, which incorporates a large performance space as venue for major events and a place for quiet contemplation.
