LI to launch housing position at Ecobuild

Publication advocates a 'landscape-led' approach.

Building housing without considering its landscape setting will not produce the sustainable communities of the future, argues the Landscape Institute in a new publication titled ‘Making it home – the power of landscape to create the communities of the future’. It will be launched at Ecobuild on 3 March.

LI director of policy and communications Paul Lincoln said: “Housing cannot be divorced from the landscape in which it is set if we are to meet the serious challenges ahead. The Landscape Institute argues that all aspects of landscape must be considered from the very beginning of any housing development if we are to deliver homes and communities in which people want to live.”

The LI advocates a ‘landscape-led’ approach in order to address:

  • food and energy security
  • water management and flood risk
  • climate change adaptation and mitigation
  • safeguarding against biodiversity loss
  • enhancing community cohesion
