Two students from Leeds Metropolitan University won a RHS Gold Medal at the recent Tatton Park RHS Show.
BA (Hons) landscape architecture students Alan Burns and Philip Dugdale received the award for ‘Cubed3’, a garden that they designed and built themselves, which also earned them the Best Visionary Garden award.
The garden incorporated a modular theme, which allowed flexibility and continued development in the space itself. To achieve this, a network of gabions was used, with each one able to serve as the foundation, the build and the finish.
Loose, green, shade-tolerant planting was used to frame and soften the structural elements of the garden. Entirely herbaceous, the planting would die back in winter revealing the ordered space.
