The Landscape Institute’s Policy Committee is currently preparing responses to two Government consultations – and all members are encouraged to offer their input…
Community Infrastructure Levy – 30 December 2011
The Community Infrastructure Levy allows local authorities to choose to charge a levy on new development in their area in order to raise funds to meet the associated demands placed on the area and to enable growth. The money raised must be used to provide infrastructure to support the development of the area, addressing the matters that the council, local community and neighbourhoods identify are needed for it to proceed – for example, by providing new roads and transport. This consultation seeks views on the way in which funding can be provided, through the Levy, for neighbourhoods to shape their local areas.

Neighbourhood planning regulations – 5 January 2012
The consultation sets out how the government proposes to take up the regulation making powers in the Localism Bill for neighbourhood planning and Community Right to Build. The regulations proposed set out the minimum level of requirements that would ensure a nationally consistent approach to designating neighbourhood areas and neighbourhood forums, and the preparation of neighbourhood plans and neighbourhood development orders.
