The council is looking for an architect or designer to create stalls for Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus. It is looking for innovative design, similar to the sculpture installed above the information kiosk at the Fashion Center in New York, which depicts a giant button with a needle through it.
The council’s built environment chief, Robert Davies, said he was keen to see the new designs in place by 2012, “when the eyes of the world” are on London.
“We want a kiosk that reflects the West End’s reputation as a leader in creative and cutting-edge design,” he said. “This is a unique chance for talented designers to truly make their mark on one of the greatest cities in the world.”
Designers wishing to register their interest should email Roger Austin, programme manager, or call him on 0207 641 7061.
