The inaugural Cheltenham Design Festival in April poses the question ‘Who’s designing the future?’ and features a line-up of speakers from landscape architects to graphic designers...
The three-day event in Cheltenham on 20 April will be presided over by festival president Sir John Hegarty, worldwide creative director of Bartle Bogle Hegarty, with an official opening by Sir John Sorrell, who established the London Design Festival.
The natural and built environment will form an integral part of the debate with renowned speakers such as landscape architects Jenny Coe and Brita von Schoenaich, and garden designer Dan Pearson taking part in the events. Urban expert Charles Landry will also contribute to the debate, as well as other creative thinkers from a variety of disciplines including engineering, industrial and graphic design.
Many of the events are cross-disciplinary in order to encourage new perspectives and viewpoints among practitioners who ultimately all deal with similar notions of space, place, movement, comfort and stability, according to the festival organisers. In addition, a series of ‘break out ’ events is planned to allow participants to engage with the speakers in workshop sessions.
The Cheltenham Design Festival takes place at the Parabola Arts Centre in Cheltenham from 20-22 April 2012. For more information and to see the line-up visit http://cheltenhamdesignfestival.com
