£4.9m of funding is up for grabs in climate change adaptation strategies

Low impact design is being rewarded in competitions opening 14 June...

The Technology Strategy Board is funding a competition with £4.9 million spread over two rounds. Individual prizes of up to £100,000 will be awarded to climate change adaptation strategies.

Proposals should address technologies, systems and processes in the areas of comfort, construction, water management and behaviour (building management and occupants). The designs should be aimed at two types of buildings, both with a building project value of over £5m:

  • Planned low impact new buildings that are now at design stage
  • Large non-domestic buildings that are about to be refurbished to low impact standards

The first event ran in May with a value of £2.5m. The next event will be announced soon for 2011 with a value of £2.4m.
