The knowledge

London taxi drivers are famous for their ability to navigate the capital’s maze of streets. In fact, neuroscientists discovered that the region of the brain called the hippocampus was larger in these cabbies than the average person. The LI has not yet suggested funding a similar study examining the brain capacity of the average landscape architect, if there is such a being, but it has provided a rich resource that will feed the mind.

It is called, appropriately enough, the Knowledge Base and we cover the details of this in a news story, here.

What knowledge, or perception, the average cabbie has of the landscape architect profession may not overly trouble the industry, but there is a need to promote its virtues to a wider public.

The upcoming Landscape magazine contains a piece by Will Self, who gives us his opinion on the profession, which will no doubt raise a few eyebrows. I am looking forward to the following debate that will take place on another of the LI"s online resources, Talking Landscape.
