Groundwork London seeks designers of ‘future-proof’ green space
Groundwork London in partnership with Hammersmith and Fulham Council has been working with local residents to design and implement climate change adaptation measures on three housing estates in west London.
With support from the EU's LIFE + Programme, they have have been transforming estates in the Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to make them fit for a future London that will experience hotter summers, wetter winters and weather extremes.

Through retrofitting sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) into the existing landscape on housing estates, these pilots show how you can improve the estates' environmental performance, increase resident satisfaction and build local resilience to climate change, says Groundwork London, which has also launched a related design competition, Design for Life.
Design for Life aims to encourage housing providers, designers and local communities to build on the success of the aforementioned pilot projects, and redesign their own green spaces so they are better able to respond to the threats of flooding, heatwaves and water shortages.
The competition is free to enter and is open to everyone, regardless of their skills or experience in landscape design. Entrants are invited to show how they would build local resilience to climate change through retrofitting their local landscape, for a chance to win up to £1,000 and a day of expert advice to help develop and implement their idea.
All shortlisted design proposals will be showcased at an event in October, and be featured in the LI journal Landscape, in early 2016.
The closing date for submissions is 5pm, 21st September 2015.
