What does Licentiate mean

Licentiate Membership with the Landscape Institutes equates to Level 6 or 7* according to Gov.UK qualification levels. *It is level 7 if the Licentiate has an MA.

To be eligible for Licentiate membership applicants are required to hold an

LI-accredited qualification. This can be at the Undergraduate or Postgraduate level of study. LI Accredited Qualification (Please check if your qualification is listed)

The LI also accept, in partnership with, the International Association of Landscape Architects, where a number of Universities and courses across the World are recognised. IFLA  (Please check if your course / University is listed)

Member Panel

If your qualifications are not accredited by the LI and are not recognised by IFLA, it is still possible to apply for Membership on completion of the ‘Licentiate Member of the Landscape Institute for those who have not completed an accredited course’ application form.

Your application will be submitted via our Member Panel who will judge the strength of your application based on both your work and academic experience and decide whether you meet the required standard. If the Member Panel approve your application you will be offered Licentiate membership of the LI and able to start the Pathway to Chartership.

Please note the LI always recommend the completion of an LI accredited qualification. This ensures the graduate has received the very best in landscape education, and is therefore eligible for Licentiate membership of the LI.

There is no guarantee of eligibility (which is what you get with an LI accredited qualification), but the Member Panel will offer feedback to any unsuccessful applicant on what is needed to do to submit a successful application.

The Member Panel consists of two Fellows and one Chartered Member of the LI.
