Landscape Institute - inspiring great places

Technical guidance and Technical Committee

Technical Bulletin: Water restrictions and watering specification, 1996

This reissued note outlines implications of water shortages and restrictions for the landscape practitioner and how watering may be specified in landscape contracts. Originally published 1996. Download

IMPORTANT NOTE

This guidance was originally published in 1996. Since then, regulatory and legislative changes have affected the water industry, superseding some elements of this guidance. These include the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 which widened the powers of water companies to control non-essential water uses during water shortages. Additionally, many water authorities no longer allow water points. Other elements of the guidance may also have been superseded since publication, and users of the guidance should ensure they comply with current legislation and local measures imposed by water authorities.

Technical Committee

The LI's Technical Committee, assisted by Secretariat staff, is responsible for providing technical guidance and expertise on landscape matters to Council, and in support of the LI’s objectives generally. The Committee's work includes responding to policy consultations, working with government bodies and other agencies to influence the technical content of new legislation and guidance, and developing the membership's technical knowledge and practice.

Technical guidance is vital to the LI's objective of inspiring great places where people want to live, work and visit. The Terms of Reference has more information on the committee's role, or contact Lesley Malone, Head of Knowledge Services.
