Construction work is due to begin in April on this landmark footbridge over the River Aire, which is one of the centrepieces of the Castleford Project. Designed to follow the site context of the nearby mill, weir and old wrecked barge, the S-shaped bridge features four curving 20m benches rising from its deck to allow users to sit and enjoy the panoramic views. Costain Ltd has been appointed to work alongside designers McDowell Benedetti to design and construct the bridge. The £4.8m project, funded by Wakefield Council, should be complete and in use by December. Discuss this article
