September 2007 Issue

Urban Initiatives has won the tender to lead the largest-ever masterplanning exercise in the UK.

Last month, Birmingham City Council appointed a consortium led by the urban design and planning firm to create the city centre masterplan, which will shape the physical, economic and cultural development of the city over the next 20 years. In particular, it will incorporate more than £10bn worth of investment planned for the city centre, including Arena Central, Snow Hill redevelopment and the proposed Library of Birmingham.

The London Development Agency (LDA) is offering multidisciplinary teams the opportunity to shape the future development of the London 2012 Olympic Site.

An enlarged Thames Gateway using reclaimed estuarial land is one proposal being considered by the Conservative Party to address the housing crisis.
