Natural England, in its unwavering efforts to conserve and enhance the natural environment, has called for new initiatives to be implemented to help it adapt to climate change and the inevitable pressures that can arise from modern development.
Dr Helen Phillips, chief executive of Natural England, said: “England needs a new approach to conservation if we are to effectively tackle the modern pressures on land created by climate change and development. The natural environment is increasingly under threat, both within and, especially, away from protected areas.”
In accordance with this contention, Natural England has published a report, ‘State of the Natural Environment’, and has highlighted some of its major findings.
Unsurprisingly, the report indicated that, as a consequence of continuing economic development and climate change, England’s natural environment is neither as lush nor as rich as it was 50 years ago. This pressure on the natural environment’s vibrancy is only set to increase.
