Founded in 1929 as the Institute of Landscape Architects and granted a Royal Charter in 1997, the Landscape Institute has 5000 members worldwide.

LI membership embraces the full range of professionals involved in using, creating and conserving landscapes, from landscape designers to conservationists, masterplanners to plant scientists, urban designers to environmental managers.

Members of the LI share the common aim of promoting landscapes which are:

  • aesthetically pleasing
  • functional
  • economic - both to create and manage
  • complementary to cultural and heritage aspects
  • considerate of the natural environment and conservation

Once you achieve Member of the LI you can practise as a Chartered landscape architect, giving you a competitive advantage over non-members in recognition of your success in the Pathway to chartership (P2C).
